NSF Cloud Bank
NSF CloudBank is a resource designed to facilitate cloud access for researchers across computer science and data science disciplines, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This initiative aims to enhance the utility and cost-effectiveness of cloud resources in academic research.
Features and Benefits
- CloudBank provides a user-friendly interface for managing cloud resources, making it easier for users to access and monitor their cloud usage and spending efficiently.
- Through consolidated billing and budget management tools, CloudBank helps users manage their cloud expenses more effectively, ensuring that they maximize the value of their allocated cloud resources.
- CloudBank offers educational materials and training resources tailored to the needs of researchers. These resources aim to improve the understanding and skills necessary to leverage cloud computing in research.
How It Works
Researchers can request cloud resources through one of the options listed on the Options for Requesting Cloud Resources page. Alternatively, you can request CloudBank resources through an eligible NSF proposal, or request small allocations ($500-$1000) for community purposes such as classes, workshops, or exploratory projects.
Once an allocation is approved approved, PIs receive access to a portal to manage their cloud resources across multiple providers, such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
Getting Started
To start using CloudBank, eligible researchers and educators must register and apply for access through the CloudBank website. The application process involves outlining the scope of the project or educational program and the expected cloud resource requirements.
