Leaving Palmetto
Congratulations on the next step of your journey! Either you are graduating or you have found a new opportunity outside of Clemson and now need to decide how to handle your data on Palmetto 2.
For both Faculty and Students there is a check list of things you need to address prior to leaving ensuring a smooth transition
Attention: Granite Users
If you are a granite user, your offboarding steps will differ from those who use Palmetto 2. Please refer to your TCP and contact a Facilitator to begin the process.
Students Access Post Graduation
Students retain access to Palmetto for one year post graduation due to their accounts remaining active per the university's account policy. During that time you may finish any projects or reviewer edits so long as you remain in an active coldfront project.
After a year, students lose their affiliation in our identity management system and are treated as external users. Access for students beyond the year can be granted in two ways:
- Node owners can add external users (including former students) to their node owner queue.
- The department can formally hire the former student (e.g. as contingent worker) at which point the former student would regain affiliation and access.
Students offboarding Checklist
Before that year expires please ensure the following :
- Any data you wish to retain is exported from /project and your /home directories.
- Transfer any relevant project files to your PIs indigo project space so that they can access them after you leave. If they do not have a space recommend they request an initial allocation
- Talk to your PI about being removed from the Coldfront project when your account expires.
- Report any publications in Coldfront so we can celebrate your achievements!
- Discuss with your PI about any future collaborations and what that entails.
Faculty Offboarding a Student Checklist
Faculty and Staff please ensure the following when offboarding a student :
- Remove them from your Coldfront project.
- Ensure that you have access to whatever directories that the student may have that are relevant to ongoing projects.
Faculty Access Post Employment
Unlike students when Faculty or Staff leave the University their accounts are deactivated immediately. As such you MUST complete this checklist prior to your last official day of employment.
Before leaving please ensure the following :
- All data you wish to keep is taken off Palmetto as your DUAs allow.
- Ensure that all your Coldfront projects are closed.
- Node owners need to decide what to do with their owned hardware as permitted by the signed agreement. Please reach out if you have any questions or to inform us how you wish to proceed.
- Purchased Storage Owners need to decide what happens to their PAID space before leaving. Please reach out and we will assist in handling the space.
- Ensure all publications are recorded in your Coldfront project so we can celebrate your lab's hard work!
